What: 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River
When: October 10, 2010 (Sunday)
Where: From CCP to SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City
What Happened:
Running for health is fun but running for a cause is exhilarating! (Especially if this run is going to be in the Guinness Book of World Record! I hope!)
Before this race, I really made sure that my friends run with me. It’s my first official run and I want it to be memorable, you know, just enough to make me run again. So I pulled a few strings and got them to run with me for free. No, It has nothing to do with me talking to powerful people. It’s just that some classmates of mine in grad school (UERMMMCI) who already registered for the run backed out of it one day before the event so I asked them if they won’t mind if my friends would just run for them instead and they agreed. It would have been better though if I got three 5K route; instead, I got one 5K route in which I would be running and two 3K route with different singlet sizes. I just have to make it work somehow. One way or the other, some will have to compromise. So Zubi got the 5K route; Mitch and Tumambing got the 3K route.
I woke up at around 2AM this morning, took a bath, prepared for the run and cooked breakfast for Zubi, Mitch and me. We met up with Tumambing and went to our starting points at CCP (5K) and SM Mall of Asia (3K). After depositing our baggage, we spotted three familiar faces in the crowd of runners - Ernest, PA, and Cyril. We approached them and they introduced us to Melyn (sp?). Zubi and I decided to run with them and the run somehow became a bit more fun. Oh, we also got the chance to have a picture with Coach Rio Dela Cruz. He’s no Piolo Pascual but he’s still a celebrity. He’s a high-speed roadrunner, a running coach extraordinaire, and a running events maestro.
The race started at 5:45AM. At first, Zubi and I were keeping up with the guys but after awhile they were ahead of us and then our distance became farther and farther apart until we can’t see them anymore. We just kept on running until we finished the race in less than an hour, exactly 50 minutes and 24 seconds. We could have done better but we weren’t really racing against anyone, it was just a fun run for a cause for us.
We met up with Ernest, PA and Cyril after the race. We got ourselves a few freebies and then we went and got our bags from the baggage area, which it took us a very long time to find (sheesh!). We then collected our finisher’s bands and ate lunch with Tumambing, Mitch, Mitch’s cousin and Tumambing’s sister.

So, do I want to run again after this? You bet!!! :D
